A local lady who shaved her hair for Cancer Research UK has raised over £4,000.

Donna McEwan from Portree shaved her head in April in recognition of all who have lost their hair through cancer treatment.  She said: "So many folk I know, like myself, have lost family and friends to cancer. A number of folk in my life have survived their cancer diagnosis. For all of them, I wanted to make a difference.

Donna, who learned the full total her efforts raised last week, told The Skye Times: "Delighted to say that my headshave in April for Cancer Research UK has raised £4185.09.

"I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of family, friends and particularly the community.

"Indeed, one of the reasons it has taken so long to reach a total is because I was still getting new donations up until three weeks ago.

"A big thanks to all who supported me, and also to the Skye Branch of Cancer Research UK for all their help with the off-line donations."
