The implementation of Sir Lewis Ritchie's recommendations were discussed at a meeting.

The community steering group on Skye met with Kate Forbes MSP to discuss the sustainable health care recommendations for north Skye.

Kate said it was important that the Cabinet Secretary and the senior executives of NHS Highland are regularly updated on how the community feel about progress and implementation.

The Ritchie Report, which was published last May, categorically stated that not only must Portree Hospital remain open, but that services there should be enhanced.

Kate Forbes MSP said: “I met with members of the community health group to discuss progress on implementing the Ritchie Report.

“Within days of the new chief executive being appointed in NHS Highland, I met him to discuss healthcare on Skye.

“There has been significant progress, of that there is no doubt, but there is still a lot more to do and to implement.

“Ultimately, our objective is to have the best healthcare possible in the north end – that includes out of hours, urgent and emergency care.”
