The survey compared hotel rates for April 2019 across 100 popular UK destinations and established an average rate for the most affordable double room in a centrally-located hotel or guest house.

Skye topped the rankings with an average rate of £121 per night for the cheapest room.

St Andrews emerged as the runner up with  rates of £117 per night.

In London, travellers will need to fork out an average of £103 for the cheapest available hotel room. Significantly more affordable, however, is the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, which ranks as the 18th most expensive destination in the UK, with average rates of £72 per night.
