It was unexpectedly warm and sunny for this Saturday's (8 June 2019) Skye Half Marathon, despite the forecasters predicting cloud and showers.
This made for a fantastic atmosphere at the start/finish line and a great day out for the spectators but increased the challenge of this scenic, but hilly course. However this didn't hold back the ladies, whose times were much improved on last year.
There was a strong local contingent out on the course. Although the race was won by William MacKay from Aberdeen AAC in a time of 1.11.37, he was closely followed by local runner Hugh Campbell. First female was Jill Smylie from Griffnock North AC in a brilliant time of 1.26.09, followed by Emily Harris in a time of 1.27.00
The Ladies team prize went to Skye and Lochalsh Running Club; Sarah Attwood, Tina Schuman and Lesley Campbell. Skye and Lochalsh males coming second place in the team category; Hugh Campbell, Paul Parker and Alex Turner
Under 21 prizes were also taken by local's Sandy Laing and Jennifer Shaw.
The event was Sponsored for the third year by the Scottish Salmon Company.
