Senior officials from Transport Scotland will next week visit Skye to meet with Kate Forbes MSP and local campaigner, Sharon Anslow, to discuss road safety improvements for the island.

Ms Anslow has been raising awareness about the need to prevent vehicles driving on the wrong side of Highland roads after she was injured in a crash with a tourist’s car last year on Skye.

Kate Forbes MSP has already written to car hire companies and leading satellite navigation firms in a bid to help improve road safety.

The MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch said: “When I first agreed to help Sharon Anslow with her campaign, the first step was inviting Transport Scotland officials to Skye and I am delighted that they are coming.

“There are a number of issues with the trunk road on Skye, particularly ensuring road safety for the countless road users whether locals or visitors.”

Sharon Anslow added: “I am delighted to be meeting with Kate Forbes and Transport Scotland about the ongoing issues we are facing.

“We have achieved a lot so far but there is so much more that still needs to be done and I hope that Transport Scotland can help us with this.”

Cllr John Finlayson said: “I am delighted with the progress made to date and the support shown to Sharon by our MSP, Police Scotland and Highland Council.

“The involvement of Transport Scotland is essential to ensure we promote road safety on our roads and I am delighted they are coming to Skye to meet with Kate and Sharon to see how things can be further improved.”
