Over 50 youngsters from the Highlands won at the Royal National Mod.

Seonaidh Forrest of Bun-Sgoil Shlèite took second prize in the Instrumental - Chanter Under 13 section.

Rachel Henderson of Portree High School took second prize in the Poetry Recitation Ages 13-15 Learners category.

Jonathan MacDonald from Staffin Primary School won a first in the Conversation Ages 7 Open section.  He also won third in the Under 13's Presenting a Psalm category, as well as claiming second prize in the Ages 5-8 Storytelling Open.

Portree High School's Iain MacCarmaig took second prize in the Solo Singing for Boys Ages 16-18 Open.  He also won third in the Traditional Singing for Boys Ages 16-18 Fluent category.

Erin Gillies of Portree High School won second prize in the Clàrsach Advanced (Grade 5) category.

Willow Ferguson of Staffin Primary School won second prize in the Presenting a Psalm Under 13 years section.

Catriona Mackinnon from Broadford Primary School claimed second prize in the Solo Singing Girls Age 10 Fluent category.

Brodie Ferguson of Staffin Primary School took first prize in the Solo Singing Ages 5-6 Fluent section.

Alasdair Stiùbhart from Portree High School took third prize in the Storytelling Ages 11-12 Open.

Seumas Stiùbhart of Bun-Sgoil Shlèite received first prize in the Reading Under 13 Fluent category.

 

Councillor Alister Mackinnon, Chair of Highland Council’s Gaelic Strategy Implementation Group said: “The Royal National Mod is a fantastic showcase event for Gaelic culture. Highland Council is very much looking forward to warmly welcoming the Mod to Inverness in 2020. We look forward to working with the local Mod Committee over the next year to ensure another successful event in the Highlands.”

Depute Provost of Inverness Cllr Graham Ross will receive the Mod flag on behalf of the Highland Council on Saturday at the official flag handover.

Councillor John Finlayson, Chair of the Council’s Care, Learning and Housing Committee said: “Well done to all the young people from the Highlands who took part in competitions this week at the Mod. There were over 50 young people from Highland who won more than 80 prizes. A huge congratulations to our winners from Sgoil Chiùil na Gàidhealtachd; Inverness Royal, Dingwall and Charleston Academies; Lochaber, Mallaig, Portree, Gairloch and Ardnamurchan High Schools; Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Inbhir Nis, Bun-Sgoil Shlèite, Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abar and Acharacle, Beauly, Broadford, Craighill, Dingwall, Dornoch, Golspie, Millbank and Staffin Primaries.”
