Herschel 36: The wonder of creation
Sleat, Isle of Skye
This extraordinary silent film is a unique document of human knowledge about the world and the universe in the 1920s. Fifteen special effects experts and nine cameramen
were involved in the production, which combines documentary scenes, historical documents, fictional elements, animation and educational impact.
Stuart Brown (drums/electronics) and Paul Harrison (keyboards/electronics) are both Glasgow based composers and improvisers who draw on collaborations and influences that cover everything from jazz, electronica and classical to folk and world music. As Herschel 36 they create dark, improvised electronic soundscapes underpinned with driving live drumming, strong synth themes and intense musical interaction.
“Their score was one of the best musical accompaniments I’ve heard. Their supremely confident but loose score fitted the film beautifully, helping to create the right sense of scale and forward motion.”
