A nostalgic musical trip back to the formative years of 20th century American Jazz returns to Skye on Sunday as part of SEALL's continuing Autumn programme.

London's hard-swinging vintage jazz band The Dime Notes come to Sabhal Mor Ostaig, An Talla Mhòr, on Sunday night (28 October) as part of their 2018 Scotland Tour.

The Dime Notes dig back into the blues-drenched sounds of clarinet-driven 1920s' New Orleans jazz, unearthing a repertoire of stomps, blues, swing and forgotten gems of the era from musicians such as Johnny Dodds, Jelly Roll Morton and Red Nichols.

The band grew out of a duo project with Chris Barber's long-time clarinettist David Horniblow and American pianist Andrew Oliver, who arrived in London in 2013 and met at a gig. They got together to play some Jelly Roll Morton tunes and began a weekly residency at an east London cocktail bar, working on a repertoire of obscure 1920s tunes.

After a year or so, the duo expanded with the addition of the unstoppable pulse of London's finest rhythm guitarist Dave Kelbie and young bassist Louis Thomas, who added a new dimension and depth to the band, which quickly became popular both at clubs and swing dances in London.

Since the release of their debut album on Lejazzetal Records in 2016, the band has toured extensively in the UK, with appearances at festivals and theatres throughout the country as well as in France, Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands.

On Thursday, 8 November, one of North America's finest practitioners of traditional Scottish music, Jamie Laval, will give a fiddle concert and TEDx Talk in An Talla Mhòr starting at 6.30pm. The concert begins at 7.30pm. The evening presents a unique opportunity to hear the storytelling and music of this internationally-acclaimed performer, composer, arranger and educator who specialises in the interpretation of Scottish pipe tunes.

Skye's popular choral group, Inner Sound, hold their winter concert in TDC main hall on Saturday 24 November. The concert closes SEALL's 2018 successful touring programme for another year.

The much-anticipated SEALL Festival of Small Halls bringing big music to remote village halls around Skye and Lochalsh runs from 23 November to 1 December and SEALL's 2019 annual touring programme begins again in February.
