Date: 2018-11-10 09:00 AM - 11:00 PM

Venue: An Crubh, Sleat

The plight of displaced people in Syria and across Europe will once again be the focus of a fundraising event in Sleat this month.

The event comes from local fundraisers, SleatFugees, started by friends Gwen Culbertson and Angela MacGillivray.  Following a successful charity dinner, SleatFugees now organise fundraising, awareness raising and aid collections for The Highlands Support Refugees in South Skye.

Gwen and Angela told The Skye Times: "To date we have raised over £4000 since March which enabled a 40-feet-long container full to the brim with aid for refugees to arrive in Lesvos, Greece from the people of Skye and Lochalsh. We organised a very successful clothing and aid collection with support from Scottish Removals in July, where 160 boxes were sent to the The Highlands Supports Refugees depot in Conon Bridge.

"The Sleat Fugees will host a charitable dinner in support of The Highlands Support Refugees which will include catering from Croft No. 8, cocktails from Inverness-based Shake & Stir and a grand prize draw for an exclusive Pam Carter print. Guests will also be able to buy ceramic bowls exclusively created for the evening by local artist Kat Lenz of Lenz Ceramics, with all proceeds going to the charity.

"The event, which is being sponsored by local businesses Culbertson Computer Services, Dualchas, MacGillivray Motors and Young Films, will take place at An Crubh on Saturday 10 November. Tickets for the event are available from Eventbrite with further information on Facebook/SleatFugees or by email This email address is being protected from spambots.
